KANABO School





TEGAI MASAZANE was a traveler. He brought MIKAWA, ISE SENGO, 
YAMASHIRO HEIANJO and SO-SHU influence for the KANABO Lane in 
NARA. Thick, wide blades were made for use.

Technical: SUGATA - KATANA, low SHINOGI, shallow curve.
             HADA - KO-MOKUME. ITA-MASA mix. JI-NIE. Cotton blue.
            HAMON - HIRO-SUGUHA, SUGU KO-MIDARE with KO-ASHI,
                    O-MIDARE KO-MIDARE mix, O-NOTARE MIDARE, 
                    some SANBONSUGI and KO-GUNOME MIDARE in NIOI.
                    NIOI can be broad and deep-falling. YO.
                    GUNOME-MIDARE with SUNAGASHI in KO-NIE.
            BOSHI - Some full tempers with deep turnback. 
           NAKAGO - NAKAGO will not be long. Signatures 
                    usually include school and town.

                     One of "The Three Great Yari"
A work of the Kanabo School of the Muromachi Period.
Hirazan KakuTsukuri, three sided Yari.
Masame Hada.
Hoso-Sugu of much Hataraki.
Kurikara Dragon on Vajra Ken Horimono made this O-Yari standout.
It is known as one of the Three Great Yari. The others, Honda Tadakatsu's Tombo-giri, Dragonfly Cutter and the Otegine.

        MASAZANE. In the style of the MASAZANE brothers.Wide,
        thick KATANA, elongated KISSAKI. NIE-DEKI and tightly 
        defined NIOI SUGU KUZURE GUNOME-MIDARE HA with ASHI 
        and YO.

MASATSUGU(1) TEN-MON (br: UEMONnoJO): HYOEnoJO. MASA form: CHENG
        (wielding a rod). Thick and wide, stout blade with 
        elongated KISSAKI. Standing MASAME HADA with JI-NIE. 
        Defined NIOI HIRO-SUGU GUNOME KO-MIDARE and GUNOME-MIDARE
        with ASHI and YO.
    MEI: NANTO KANABO HYOEnoJO MASATSUGU
         NANTO JU KANABO HYOEnoJO MASATSUGU


MASATSUGU(2) KO-JI (br: BEInoJO): UEMONnoJO. Resembles the style
        of his brother, wide and thick KATANA. MASAME HADA.
